BE AN AMA VOLUNTEER NOW

GROW IN FAITH THROUGH VOLUNTEER SERVICE

ASSOCIATE MISSIONARIES OF THE ASSUMPTION PHILIPPINES

06 Jun, 2021
In October 2020 we welcomed the first group of AMA Pandemic Volunteers through the Balik Ugat, Balik AMA program. Elinor Gatpatan, Ting Villegas King, Esther Ral, Paz Ablan Maniba, Urbano Aguirre Sanico Jr., Bambi Ibit, Cherry Rayos Miguel were the alumni who generously gave themselves in service for the 2020-2021 year. They were joined by Ms. Marge Revilla, from Assumption College. They served as online tutors to ASEC students. ASEC is one of the Assumption mission schools where AMA has been sending volunteers for 30 years. It is also the place where the AMA volunteer program began. Although we cannot send our volunteers to their areas physically, it is still possible to serve virtually due to the ongoing pandemic. The spirit of volunteerism is alive and well and we hope to gather many generous volunteers for this effort. Thank you to our Pandemic Volunteers for your patience through all the difficulties of online tutoring! God Bless you always! To join this coming 2021-2022 batch of volunteers, please email Gamay Solis.

The AMA Volunteer Program is a program for service-oriented young professionals who would like to offer volunteer service by teaching or engaging in community work in the different Assumption communities and apostolic ministries of the Church in the Visayas and Luzon. Their main apostolate is the education and formation of the poor and the young.
The AVP is not only a way for young people to serve those in need. It is primarily a formation program that is designed to help young volunteers grow in a greater appreciation of their faith, in their life in prayer and a deeper understanding of themselves and their purpose while living a life of simplicity, prayer and community in the service of the poor.

One year Volunteer Program

The one year volunteer program is for individuals who would like to make a one year commitment as a volunteer of AMA. It provides the following:

The Orientation and Skills Training Seminar and Retreat (10-14 days) in May. The seminar/retreat aims to equip the volunteer with the necessary knowledge, skills, value orientation, and spirituality for competent and committed service to the areas/communities they are assigned to.

The Mid-Year Evaluation Seminar and Retreat (7 days) in October is aimed at giving the volunteers the opportunity to reflect upon their experiences and review their growth areas. Apart from this, these sessions give them the opportunity for faith reflection.

The Year-End Evaluation Seminar and Retreat (7 days) in March is aimed at evaluating the one year of experiences of the volunteers and assist them in the integration of their learnings and realizations into a commitment to a way of life in the Church. Besides serving this as a closure, it also prepares them for their return to social structure they had been separated from (their families and friends).

Regional Fellowships (3 days each, 2 times a year) are gatherings are designed for the volunteers in each geographical region. During these gatherings, the volunteers are given the opportunity to share their concerns and difficulties in their work areas. The gathering as serves as a time to rest and re-energize.

Regular Visits and Dialogue by the Program Staff are visits to volunteers whose aim is to monitor the progress of the volunteers in their service areas as well as their faith journey. It is also gives the program an opportunity to dialogue with area supervisors regarding the formation and work performance of the volunteers.

The program also tries to provide logistical support to the volunteers through housing and monthly allowances.

Short term Volunteer Program

The Short-term Volunteer Program is offered to locals and foreigners who wish to serve and immerse themselves in the realities of poor communities. These volunteers, most of whom come from international communities where the Assumption is present, give two weeks to six months service in local institutions, NGOs, and parishes.

The volunteers participate in the repair of schools/community centers, provide sports clinics, tutorial lessons, leadership seminars, etc. They also join the activities of the other volunteers and the alumni.

Retreats and Recollections for the Young

AMA Alumni receive invitations to provide retreats and recollections from different schools, parishes, and youth groups. The participants come from various sectors such as Assumption students, youth groups, office employees, and laity. Retreats and Recollections are conducted upon invitation. In one year, the average number of participants to these retreats is approximately 200.

Alumni Community

The alumni community has continued to be a support group, a praying community and has provided human and material resources to the volunteer program.
The alumni, as members of the board oversee the implementation of the program and the sustainability of the organization. Each Board of Trustees member heads or supports a committee that is directly involved in the operation of the AVP.

Other alumni assist the AVP by facilitating recruitment talks, designing and facilitating formation modules and giving logistical support to the program during gatherings. The alumni fund raise every year for the AVP.
